AENA selects the joint venture led by KUBIWIRELESS to provide the WI-FIservice of the MADRID BARAJAS AND BARCELONA AIRPORTS

The joint venture formed by Vodafone Spain, KubiWireless and Comunitel is to offer wireless Internet access in the Madrid-Barajas and Barcelona-El Prat airports.

The joint venture formed by KubiWireless, Vodafone Spain and Comunitel has been awarded by the Spanish aviation authority AENA the provision and operation of a Wi-Fi Internet access service comprising 37 hotspots in the terminals of the Madrid and Barcelona airports.
The joint venture formed by KubiWireless, the Spanish company that is spearheading the deployment of a high-speed wireless Internet access network in Spain, Vodafone Spain, global leader in mobile communications, and Comunitel, global telecommunications services operator for the corporate sector and provider of the communications infrastructure for the airports, has been awarded by the Spanish aviation authority AENA the provision and operation of a Wi-Fi Internet access service comprising 37 hotspots in the terminals of the Madrid and Barcelona airports.

This Internet access service will be a major benefit for travellers, who can now make the best of their waiting time at airports. Users with Wi-Fi-enabled laptops or PDAs will be able to access the Internet and corporate intranets or download e-mail at any of the 37 access points rolled out by AENA and located mainly in the food courts of the airport terminals.

In 2004, passenger traffic in these two airports exceeded 63 million people. Their volume and nature ? the main passenger traffic hubs in Spain with a significant proportion of business travellers ? place the Madrid and Barcelona airports at the top of the Spanish hotspot ranking in terms of commercial appeal and turnover.

This new service will integrate airports into KubiWireless' hotspot network and will enable users to access the Internet not only now at the Madrid and Barcelona airports, but also at any of the 200 hotspots of KubiWireless' network in Spain, including some of leading hotel chains in the country (Silken, Abba, Husa, Vincci, Derby Hotels, Rafael Hoteles, Iberostar, etc.). The integration of airports into KubiWireless' franchise will also open this service to national and international subscribers of operators having roaming agreements with KubiWireless, among them Vodafone Spain and Comunitel.
